Today my abuelita turns 88. She’s the only abuelita I have left. I have fond memories of my other abuelita and abuelitos whom I love very much and miss dearly.
I had a chance to spend some time with my abuelita a few months ago in Ecuador and I wanted to get some photos of her that gave our family a sweet taste of what she is like. She is one of the most active 88 year old ladies I know. She goes almost daily to an activity center where she meets with other elderly men and women and does all sorts of things. Here she has started a choir group as well as got a medal for a dance competition recently. How awesome is that!? I believe this activity is part of the reason why she’s healthy and still going strong.
If you ever spend any time with her you will see that she is not shy to talk and tell you all sorts of stories about her childhood and about how good God has been to her. She carries on the torch of giving God all the credit for everything she is and everything she has.
Her favorite thing to do is sing. You don’t even have to ask her. She’ll hear a word and it triggers a song in her head which she’ll immediately go right into. As in the video below. I love her dearly and it is an honor to have been able to take these photos of her. I hope that when I’m 88 I am able to be as grateful, humble and content as she is.
Feliz Cumpleaños Abuelita!!! Te quiero mucho!!

She loves to sing with her arm out. Like she’s delivering a speech!

Yep, she’s singing!

Te quiero mucho, mucho abuelita!!
